The Teacher

Toni Crichton completed her degree in Classical Music at UCT with a Post Graduate Certificate in Education.  She majored in piano, with violin as her second instrument. With a keen interest in Music Therapy, Toni incorporated Psychology into the first few years of her degree and values the role of Music in Education and in the role music plays in the development of each individual.

At St Andrews School for girls, Toni studied piano under Margie Cleghorn.

Much of her experience has been in schools over more than a decade, in the government as well as private sector.  This has included the running of music departments, teaching classes, with experience in accompaniment, productions, choral training, orchestra, marimba and Orff training as well as individual lessons for all ages.  Toni was included on the judging panel for the ACSA National Choir Competition in 2011 and 2012.  Toni adjudicated the Reddam ASB annual music competition in 2016. She is passionate about music development.

In 2013, Toni had the privilege of working with phenomenal actor, Jeff Bridges on the piano scene required for the movie ‘The Giver’ (Moonlighting Films), released in August 2014.  She also worked on a music scene with young actor, Ray Crosswaite, for the series ‘Black Sails’ (Film Afrika). In 2015 she consulted on the music scenes for ‘L’Odessey’ as well as coached actor Kenny Wormard for his piano scene in “Honey 3”.

In February 2014, Toni launched Tonic Productions, a music school based in Bantry Bay, Cape Town.    Her students include those wanting to learn how to play the piano as well as DJ’s and Production students wanting to expand their keyboard skills for the purpose of production.  She also offers vocal coaching and has two guitar teachers operating from Seapoint.

The Studio

Tonic Productions launched on 1st February 2014 and is a music school based in Bantry Bay, offering lessons in piano, vocals, theory and aural.  Guitar lessons are offered in Seapoint and we currently have one guitar teacher who is able to teach from the comfort of your own home.  Exams in ABRSM, Trinity and Trinity Rock School are offered.  Lessons are suited to each individual need  – be it classical, jazz or contemporary.  Our main aim is that each pupil is perfectly accommodated to pursue their individual music dreams.

Lessons are offered from the age of 5 with many of our pupils being adults.  In addition to individual tuition, courses are also offered in piano (intro as well as advanced) and guitar (intro) which offers an adult a group experience over a 10 week period.   These courses run in the evenings as well as mornings.

We look forward to being able to offer regular performance opportunities for our pupils.  Please follow us on TWITTER for upcoming events or contact us to be added to our mailing list.
